First off, I want to thank everyone who sticks around in the server for their patience! Rust released an update today that overwrote configuration files that are critical for launching the game server. After installing the update, my automated procedures ran all the scripts they were supposed to, but they were blank! This is why we do backups!
Will This Happen Again?
Hell no! I definitely won’t be trusting that shit again. The server is very regularly backed up, the world is currently back up and running just as it was before it shut down to check for updates. It took a little messing with to get going, but to prevent this sort of issue from happening again I’ve modified all of my automation to use scripts that are named differently from the default. This should prevent Rust updates from overwriting my very specific config files again.
